Sonic Systems Laboratory (SSL) is a vibraphone duo with a difference. Described by Shannon O’Neill as “like waking up to an alarm clock, only in reverse; the hypnotic quality of the sound pulling the listener into a dream world”, over the past decade renowned Australian drummer and composer Robbie Avenaim and percussionist Dale Gorfinkel have together developed a unique language on the vibraphone. Joining the bill that evening will be experimental vocalist Sage Musick and artist, musician and percussionist Erin K Taylor.

With instruments that are microtonally prepared and activated by machines—instead of the usual mallets—SSL weave together tones laden with a variety of unusual textures. Come down to MPavilion to experience this unique sensorial showcase!
