Jane’s Walk is a not-for-profit movement involving cities worldwide. In Melbourne we’ve been active since 2013. Jane’s Walk builds on the legacy of noted urbanist Jane Jacobs and features walking, neighbourhood stories and citizen advocacy. Featuring a walking festival on the first weekend of May each year, it attracts people eager to uncover the secrets of their city or locale. Jacobs was a citizen activist who believed that ordinary people could do extraordinary things and this idea impels Annie Bolitho, Melbourne city organiser and the organising group Janet Bolitho of Port Places, and Judy Stanton.
